My name is Arctic. Nice to meet you.
I make art… regarding computer software, mostly. Since the beginning, my goal has been to reveal the beauty within the seemingly mundane. This includes free software, of course.
Regarding that, since 2021, I’ve been a member of the FOSS community (I’m not a Stallman-worshipping zealot “Fossoid” or whatever people on Mastodon are calling them, however. those people are strange.) and have used primarily free (libre) programs, including GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) and Krita, in the production of my artwork.
I have also been using Linux full-time since April 2023. (Kubuntu at the time of writing this)
On a final note, I hope I brighten your day sometime.
Information about my personal mascot, Axia (seen below) can be found at this page.
For drawing, I generally use a Wacom Intuos S with an ASUS Q550LF laptop - it’s not very sophisticated, but it’s what I have at present until I can find the money for a better setup. Check out /uses for other related info.
With the exception of YouTube, DeviantArt, and Discord, I am not active on any popular social media. The reason for this is not only because of privacy and anti-corporate reasons that have been discussed heavily in the online world and beyond, but modern social media also subjects the user to pressure from algorithms, excessive drama, and general “enshittification.” All of this noise adds more needless stress to my life, so I typically gravitate towards smaller, more independent platforms like my Mastodon instance.
I am continuing to make efforts to migrate to alternative platforms if possible.
to be written.
I personally believe that “Furry” is only a label that one chooses to have, so despite the existence of Axia and my style of drawing anthro characters, no, I am not a “furry,” or at the very least I choose not to identify as one. The label “furry” and its associated fandom carry a lot of unsavory baggage that I wish not to be associated with.
Regardless, if you still want to call me that, you can and I won’t care at all.
The answer is a resounding no.
My website is currently hosted on GitLab Pages and built using the Hugo static site generator since December 2023.
